Student Project Innovations

Some of the projects done by the students of Caarmel Engineering College are given below. These projects show innovative ideas, student collaboration, the use of critical thinking skills, in-depth investigations, and a very high student motivation and engagement factor. These projects were highlighted in the leading newspapers.

Vehicle Position Information System

The Alumni Society of AOTS Kerala (ASA Kerala) award function for the best 'Young Engineering Talents' of the year and the presentation of winning projects was held at the Nippon Kerala Centre, Kinfra Hi-tech Park on 29th May 2011. The award of Rs. 1 lakh was presented to Caarmel Engineering College students by Mr. T.J. Subhash, Managing Director of M/s. Supra Hitech Electro Equipments Pvt. Ltd.  The award, instituted by Japan-based NGO - ASA, is given for the best three innovative ideas that make way for a better future, selected from the projects submitted by hundreds of students from various engineering colleges across Kerala as a part of their course.

The project team comprising of Sarath Chandran S., Ajmal S., Nandakumar N., Sanoop S. Mathews, Santhu Raj U. and Vishnu S. Nair of Caarmel Engineering College, Pathanamthitta won the prestigious award for their project, VEHICLE POSITION INFORMATION SYSTEM

This device locates a vehicle while in motion. The system uses a microcontoller, a GSM module and a GPS module. The GPS module locates the position of the vehicle and compares it with microcontroller and sends alert SMS to the registered passengers via a GSM module about the position of the vehicle. Typically, when fitted on a bus or a train, a person waiting at any point on its route can get, upon request, an SMS message when it reaches any of its designated stopping points.

This project is a result of the common adage - necessity is the mother of Invention. The college has an excellent transportation facility consisting of 17 buses. However, if a student misses the college bus, he has to catch a private bus to the nearest bus stop and then get an autorickshaw to reach the college. This sowed the seed in their young minds to find a solution - by getting information on time - so that they do not miss their bus.

ASA Kerala - Awards function - 29-05-2011
The First prize of Rs. 1 Lakh is presented to Mr. Ajmal S. & Mr. Sarath Chandran by Mr. T.J. Subhash, Managing Director of M/s. Supra Hitech Electro Equipments Pvt. Ltd.

Smart Assistant Module (SAM) Wheelchair

The Smart Assisted Module (SAM) Wheelchar, which can be used by the blind people, is equipped with advanced sensor technology that helps detect any obstacles in its path and emot sound vibrations to alert the user. The sensor driven technology use ultrasound and infrared technology that feeds on solar power for its energy requirements.

Air Curtain Refrigerator (ACRO)

The air curtain refrigerator (ACRO) can regulate power consumption. It can considerably reduce power consumption with the help of a blower system, a programmable electronic unit, and special heat sensors.

Automobile Theft Preventing System (ATPS)

To prevent your vehicle from getting stolen, you can use the Automobile Theft Preventing System (ATPS). The ATPS uses mechanical wheel locking system, a vehicle alarm system and a remote alarm system. Apart from the locking of the wheels, the alarm system will be triggered immediately in the event of any possibilty of theft thus alerting the user immediately.
